goes ahead

State of the Art Aged Care Services will soon be available in Broome according to Dr Frank Prendergast of Southern Cross Homes. “The project will eventually house fifty-five residential aged care beds, a day centre and associated community care facilities. Stage One will deliver thirty-two new residential aged care beds by April 2007,” he said. Dr Prendergast reported that fourteen of these beds will be dementia specific while eighteen beds will be for the frail aged.

Hoping to recruit a stable, trained workforce from Broome residents, Southern Cross Care (WA) has joined forces with Broome TAFE , Rubibi and Notre Dame University (Broome Campus) to work to create training and employment opportunities for this important service for the Kimberley.

The land to be used for the aged care home is in Dickson Street. It is part of the Clementson Street Reserve, and will be leased by Southern Cross Care (WA) from Rubibi Traditional Owners Group. The land to be used incorporates the present park area which will be available for visitors to the Home as well as local residents.
