A celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation held recently in Warmun was the first for a decade. The eleven candidates were well prepared by Ngalangangpum Catholic School and Bishop Saunders, who administered the Sacrament, thanked the parish priest, the parents, sponsors and staff whose combined efforts enabled the celebration to take place with dignity and joy.
Bishop Saunders said he was overjoyed that the Sacrament of Confirmation had been celebrated by such a wonderful group of young people now gifted by the Spirit and filled with a deeper appreciation of their faith. “I regret that there has not been Confirmation here these past few years and I congratulate Father Mark Connolly for his attention to the Spiritual needs of the faith Community in addressing the situation. The enthusiasm at the school to further the Sacrament of Confirmation is much appreciated by all those who wish to see the faith develop among the people” he said. “Such is the vocation of true Missionaries and people of faith who are not afraid of hard work.”
The Sacrament of Reconciliation was held on Saturday night followed by a Cultural evening of dancing and then a healthy barbecue. The next morning the Bishop and Father Mark were led to the “Holy Place” by singers in procession chanting and tapping clapping sticks. Mass was celebrated and Harold Yalunga joined the gathering as a candidate for First Holy Communion.
