Some sailed over the ocean in ships, earning their living on the seas.
They saw what the Lord can do,
His wonderful acts on the seas.

LA GRANGE – BIDYADANGA
By Fr. Emil Ciecierega SDS

There are three remote Communities in the Great Sandy Desert, south of Bidyadanga which are located within the boundaries of the La Grange Bidyadanga Parish. They are Punmu (about 800 km from Bidyadanga following the main road), Kunawarritji also called Well 33 (about 200 km east of Punmu) and Parnngurr which is also known as Cotton Creek (about 200 – 300km from Punmu depending whichtrack you follow). The population of each Community is about 100 – 150 people.

La Grange –Bidyandanga parish Priest, Fr Emil Ciecierega tries to visit the Communities three times a year. He says it has been a very interesting experience meeting the people there who have close family connections with families in Bidyadanga. Staying with the families in these remote locations has broadened his understanding of the life and culture of these friendly and welcoming people. A big crowd at the Celebration of the Eucharist under the setting sun in Kunawarritji.

Photo: On the road to Parnngurr we “stumbled across” an enormous emu. It took three strong ladies: Djarie Minyadi, Kathy Thomas and Bambi Meribida to carry it to the car.
